Meet Dino! Dino came to the Sachse Shelter several months ago after a cruelty investigation. The court agreed that Dino was not being cared for the way he should and awarded custody to the shelter. At first, Dino was very scared. He had defensive wounds all over his body and terrible sores on his face and mouth. The shelter sought veterinary care and spent extra time with him each day. He didn't know who all those people were and he just wanted to get away from them. Most people thought Dino was just plain mean. But, he wasn't. He had been so mistreated by people that he didn't trust. He would bark, growl, and charge at people to get them to ... (Read More)leave him alone. He had enough mistreatment with the other people, he wasn't about to take it from these new people. The shelter workers and volunteers didn't know if Dino would ever come around to their way of thinking, but they kept visiting him and telling him that his life was going to get better. Despite Dino's rough edges and hesitancy to interact, everyone fell in love with him. Dino got extra treats, toys, and talk time. Sure enough... After a few weeks, Dino quit barking at the people he saw every day. Pretty soon, Dino was seen wagging his tail. One day, a volunteer left the gate open to Dino's area and he ran out into the yard. He ran straight for the volunteer. And, rolled over for a belly rub! Dino didn't attack, pin, or bite. In fact, he's never bitten. He just wanted the love he deserves. Of course, Dino now goes for mile-long walks and enjoys as many belly rubs as he can finagle in a day! Unfortunately, Dino doesn't just have years of cruelty to overcome. He is also a pit bull. Many folks won't even give him the time of day just because of that. It breaks my heart that after all he's been through and all the progress he has made, he just can't seem to catch a break. Dino needs a home. Heck, he DESERVES a home. A real home. With people that love him and want him. Does Dino have special needs? Yes. He needs someone that is going to be gentle with him and he probably shouldn't be around small children because he's a big boy and is still learning the rest of his manners. He also needs unconditional love. He is so unsure of himself and his worth. He needs someone to continue the mission of the shelter staff and volunteers. Dino NEEDS our help.
